Phono cylinder kit

I built this neat Edison phono cylinder kit in my hotel room. When traveling, always remember to pack kits you’ve been meaning to get to! Much better than the horrible pay-per-view choices on the TV. You can get this one at the Maker Shed. Also, click this link to see my Flickr set of build photos, if you’re into that sort of thing.
I haven’t had a chance to try it yet, but it sure looks nice. It’s a functional phono cylinder — you put some weights on the needle arm and turn it on to record. The cup turns and the whole horn/needle arm assembly move from one end of the cup to the other, cutting a groove as you yell into it. From the pictures in the Japanese instructions, I gather you then remove some of the weight for playback. I’ll get some batteries tomorrow and try it out if there’s time.
